What is Reenacting?

Re-enacting

Acting means make believable.  In other words it’s not about making yourself believe that you see a sky full of B-24’s or a company of Tiger tanks coming over the hill..;  It’s about making the other guy believe that you are what you say you are.

Your job is to create the impression that you are a WW2 combatant.

We do not try to fool ourselves into thinking that we are real soldiers.  That is not our intention.  Our intention is to experience what we CAN experience about the day to day life of the common GI in the ETO in WW2.

Can we experience the heartache, the terror and the misery? NO.

But we CAN know how to correctly put on and care for our gear.  We CAN know the basics of drill and how to use our weapons as was taught in boot camp.

We CAN experience glimpses of being in the field, with the wind and the rain coming down.  We CAN experience the dawn breaking with an authentic German Panzer cresting over a hill.  We CAN experience the smell of gunpowder, the feel of canvas webbing, the weight of our helmets on our weary heads.  We CAN hear the clank of a Sherman as it rounds a corner to face a German halftrack.  All of these sensory experiences combine to provide a very real window into the world of a GI in the ETO.

Mostly, though we come to know camaraderie.  Not to the extent and bond of those who served- but the flavor is respectful and true.

Your job is to make believable for all who see you that you ARE the thing you say you are.  You ARE a WW2 combatant.  You will accomplish this in small concrete steps, eventually coming to know what you CAN know about being a GI in World War 2.

Anything less is just playing dress up.
